What I know so far…
There is a difference between knowing something because someone told you, or you read about it, or experienced it,
and KNOWING something because it resonates deep within your soul.
As a child I learned how to ignore the hum in my body or ring in my ears when I KNEW something. And as an adult I am learning to listen again.
Today, over coffee with some of my loveliest writer friends, we discussed how to “make it” in the publishing world.
How much social media presence should we have? How many followers? How many in-person conferences? How many queries?
The hows and whys go on an on.
Honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming and no one really knows the right way to do this. It is a guessing game. Guessing (and getting it wrong) can be exhausting and time consuming.
So I’m relying on KNOWING.
Here’s how it goes. When I think about my next step, does it bring me anxiety or does it feel exciting? Does it draw me in or push me away? Does it feel bright and light or heavy and dark? These questions let me know what is in alignment with my soul and my soul’s journey, which is ultimately, uniquely my own.
So this is what I KNOW.
1. I always feel better when I honor my gut reaction, physical and emotional response to ideas…regardless of “shoulds”.
2. I am always guided to the next best thing when I follow that spark of excitement.
3. I always find a spark of excitement when I know what I want and I leave the door open for opportunity.
Here’s an example. During that lovely coffee, I began to feel a bit pressured by the “shoulds” so I reaffirmed these things that I KNOW.
Upon leaving that meeting I was immediately introduced to someone I didn’t know that I already knew.
We reconnected and realized we went to grad school together. She invited me to join her in an outreach literacy program she is involved in.
The reason this is MAGICAL is:
1. I had already set the intention to do more literacy outreach in the city. I’m excited about that. I wasn’t sure how to do it.
2. It felt RIGHT and EASY and HAPPY.
3. It confirmed that I already KNOW how to navigate my own journey.
And I’m SO excited for the next magical step.
